"It is with great pleasure that D66 herewith nominates Mr. Boris van der Ham for a seat in the Liberal International Human Rights Committee.

Boris van der Ham has dedicated a large part of his professional life to the fight for human rights and equal opportunities. During his time in office as a well-respected parliamentarian for D66, Mr. Van der Ham drafted several bills, including one that abolishes the ban on blasphemy and one that requires equal treatment for the handicapped as well as for gays and lesbians. He was also spokesman on among others education and  freedom of speech. After his political career Mr. Van der Ham has continued his dedication to individual liberty, among others as a president of the Dutch Humanist Association.

D66 is a party that stands for progress and believes in universal human rights in a globalizing world. With Mr. Van der Ham as a representative in the Liberal International Human Rights Committee, D66 will continue to fight for equality and the protection of human rights – we consider this an integral part of our continuous advocacy for individual freedom and liberty.

We are proud to have witnessed the impact on the improvement of human rights Mr. Van der Ham has had both in- and outside the political arena. Therefore we are confident to nominate Boris van der Ham for a seat in the Liberal International Human Rights Committee."
